Deputy Foreign Editor

DMCG Global is looking for a Deputy Foreign Editor for their client company who is a leading quality news organisation in the Middle East. The Position is based in Abu Dhabi.
 
Candidates should have a deep knowledge of regional politics, diplomacy, society and culture, an eye for a story, and the ability to see through projects from beginning to end – as well as expert editing skills.
 
Experience running or helping to run a foreign desk at a significant news outlet is required.
 
Key skills include:

• Great news judgment and ability to write, edit and make calls quickly under tight deadlines with competing priorities
• Needs to have an eye for a story, understanding of news development and seeing a story through from concept to publication
• Excellent organisational skills
• Ability to manage a team of reporters and editors to run day-to-day operations of a news desk
• Excellent planning skills
• Track record of bringing in exclusive news, interviews and features
• Understanding of online publishing, SEO, managing traffic targets and track record of bringing growth is key
• Good network of freelancers, Middle East contacts and Western sources a benefit

The role would involve supervision of a large operation in Abu Dhabi and a network of bureaux and correspondents around the world. Day to day requirements would see the deputy working closely with the Foreign Editor to plan the agenda, assign tasks and oversee completion. Liaise with multimedia, social, homepage and production teams and help produce a daily print product and online website.
 
Minimum five years of experience in a position managing news teams at a reputable outlet and multimedia and social media skills are also an advantage.
