We're assisting our client in looking for Heads of Engineering for their office in Sofia and Paris. Our client is a leading European online search and visual merchandising platform for e-commerce sites for global retailers & brands.
 
ABOUT THE ROLE
They operate two core products and in order to streamline and focus their delivery, they are looking for two Heads of Engineering to oversee, guide and mentor the engineering teams and to bring fresh ideas on software delivery to the business in order to maintain and exceed their position in the market. The Heads of Engineering will inherit existing teams and grow them to deliver a modern and strong engineering capability.
 
The roles will report directly and work closely with the CTO to be aligned on tech strategy.
 
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
The Heads of Engineering will own the technical delivery and operations under which they have accountability to manage organizational change to meet ever-evolving business and customer needs. The technical teams are based in Europe and travel to London and Paris or Amsterdam and Sofia would be an expectation (once Covid restrictions have been lifted).
 
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TEAM
  • Own the engineering of your own product driving technical decisions and building your own team
  • Deliver all our roadmap items for your product, working closely with the Product leaders
  • Identify the technical debt that could block the business and set up action plans to avoid such scenarios
  • Define and implement strategy to improve the efficiency of the teams 
  • Day to day people management and creating a team environment where team members feel like they belong and are supported to do their best work
  • Train, mentor and scale teams to deliver exceptional engineering discipline in a fast-paced Agile environment to support the client’s growth
  • Support teams in increasing the delivery proficiency by creating an environment of continuous improvement
  • Set standards and processes to create a uniformed approach to Engineering building out DevOps within the teams
  • Manage the 24/7 cloud (AWS or GCP) and operations team within SLAs and deliver advances in both engineering and operations to deliver a true SaaS based experience for our customers
  • Develop solutions with a MACH philosophy in mind, leading to a great experience for developers and customers who use our solutions
  • Working with Big Data and solving technical challenges associated with it
 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE YOU NEED TO THRIVE IN THIS ROLE
  • Previous experience in a Head of Engineering or a Technical Lead who is ready to move up into this position
  • Technical degree in Software Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience in and passion for growing, developing and guiding people
  • Experience of managing technical teams and working collaboratively with Product teams to deliver customer facing solutions
  • Experience of working in a eCommerce technical environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
